Robotics Summer Camp

The Robotics camps are specially developed to immerse children with hands-on S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math). All classes are designed to be "small-in-size" to give a high quality experience for each child. Our teachers are very experienced in robotics education and have been involved in robotics for over 10 years. We excite student creativity through robots!

FLL Intensive: Building Competition Style Robots & Prototyping Attachments

This camp in intended for students that already have some FLL experience or are preparing to join a team. Beginners will evaluate already existing robot designs and advanced students will develop their own original robot. Students in small groups will actively participate in the engineering process: "ask, imagine, plan, create & improve." They will learn skills to help them create a more sturdy, robust, and versatile design.

FLL Intensive: Solving Missions With Strategy, Programming & Prototyping Attachments

This camp in intended for students that already have some FLL experience or are preparing to join a team. Bring your imagination, ideas, & building skills to this problem solving class. Students will work in small groups to tackle FLL style robot challenges starting with brainstorming ideas, developing strategies, prototyping attachments, and programming. We will look at the plusses & minuses of using sensors and other tools to increase consistency.

LEGO EV3 Mindstorms: Robot Building
Students will work on building various robot designs using the LEGO Mindstorms EV3 System. Students will get an in-depth exploration of the parts, building techniques, LEGO engineering, motors, gearing, some programming & sensors, and more. They will be challenged to create robots that walk, drive, slither, race, or work. For beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

LEGO EV3 Mindstorms: Programming
This class is for the child who wants to know everything about the new LEGO Mindstorms EV3 robot. Students will get an in-depth exploration of the parts, building, programming, sensors, and more. They will have an opportunity to work with the light/color, gyro, ultrasonic, infrared, rotation, and touch sensors. For beginner, intermediate, and advanced.

MakeyMakey & Scratch “Mix-Up”
MaKeyMaKey is an invention kit for the 21st century. Turn everyday objects into touchpads and combine them with the internet. It's a simple Invention Kit for Beginners and Experts doing art, engineering, and everything in between. Students will explore MakeyMakey circuits in combination with the Scratch programming software. Kids can create a banana piano, squishy game controller, magic art, and more- the combinations are only limited by your imagination.

Mindstorms For the Younger Child
Build and program robots using the LEGO Mindstorms system! Learn about mechanical and software design, loops, conditional statements, problem solving, and teamwork skills. Work in small groups to program and build your robot, and rise to the challenge. Control the robot to avoid obstacles, pick up and carry objects, and play sounds. Projects are structured so that students work in an open-ended, investigative environment while having fun. Students with prior experience will be challenge with more advanced building and programming. Limited to 10 students.

NEW! WeDo 2.0:

Programming is an important part of 21st century learning. The WeDo 2.0 software teaches programming in an intuitive way – letting students bring their creations to life while sharpening computational thinking skills like logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and modeling simulations. It is a hands-on solution that ignites students' curiosity, while enhancing their skills in science, engineering, technology, and coding.

Jr. Robotics: Beginner & Advanced
Build and program robots in this introductory Robotics class using the LEGO WeDo system. Learn basic programming skills, simple engineering concepts, and the names of robot components.  Work in small groups to complete several projects using tilt and motion sensors.  This is a great way to prepare young Robotics enthusiasts for our more advanced Robotics programs. Those kids with some experienced will be challenged with new models and programs.

WeDo: Advanced
This class will build on your child's WeDo experience and challenge them to create more complex building and programming projects. Using LEGO motors and sensors children will build a car, crane and ferris wheel, as well as other projects using basic programming to add sound and movement to their projects. Lots of fun for young Engineers!

Pre-Engineering
This camp is for the young LEGO fan. In a creative and friendly atmosphere children will be introduced to key simple machines concepts while building teamwork and communication skills. They will discover basic physical science concepts such as gears, pulleys, levers, and wheels and axles through observation, reasoning, prediction, and critical thinking. Build engineer-designed projects such as a merry-go-round, bridges, catapults and motorized cars, and use special pieces to create your own unique design!

LEGO Engineering
Students will build and explore complex machines and mechanisms, investigate motorized machines, calibrate and capture wind, and study gearing mechanisms in an engaging way that makes STEM fun. They will explore physical science, technology, and problem solving skills all while creating some incredible working LEGO motorized cars, cranes, windmills, a tail waging puppy, and more. Those students with experience will be challenged with more complex designs and engineering concepts.

LEGO Engineering II
Students will build and explore different complex machines and mechanisms using the LEGO Education Motorized Simple Machine kits in combination with pnuematics and alternative energy sets. Learn how to create, store, and utilize solar, wind, water, air, and mechanical energy to run these amazing creations.

Scratch
Scratch is a programming language and online community where children can program and share interactive media such as stories, games, and animation with people all over the world. As children create with Scratch, they learn to think creatively, work collaboratively, and reason systematically. Scratch is designed and maintained by Lifelong Kindergarten group at the MIT Media Lab.

Scratch Jr
Coding is the new literacy! With Scratch Jr, young children can program their own interactive stories and games. In the process, they learn to solve problems, design projects, and express themselves creatively on the computer. They will develop basic programming concepts, terms, and skills.
